EDUCATION FOR ENTERPRENEURSHIP in the EC Province is driven by Professor Peggy Luswazi.

During exile in Germany she was drawn to the profound thinking and innovative educational theory and practices of a German Educationist and scholar, Prof Jurgen Zimmer. He was Dean of the Faculty of INTERCULTURAL EDUCATION at the Free University, Berlin during the 1980’s .

South Africans in exile, Peggy Luswazi and Vusi Mchunu both studied at the Free University in Berlin.

Luswazi described Zimmer: “Zimmer gained experience while engaged as a critical educationist during the 1970’s to 1980 collaborating with “Third World Countries” like Brazil ,Indonesia, Phillipines and a West African country. Zimmer was also influenced by critical German political / sociology scholars of the time as they observed and criticised world post colonial unstable and unequal development. Zimmer was convinced that future education systems should focus on an education whose products and graduates could cope with systemic economic ups and downs. This would be achieved through acquisition of competencies that render them capable of occupational independence from external employers when necessary and within sustainable self reliant communities.Closely related to this would be promotion of a politically progressive and critical mindset.”

Jürgen  Zimmer called his theory “EDUCATION FOR LIFE ” EDUCATION FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP.” One of the international projects shaped on and driven by Zimmer’s theory was a school he founded among poor communities In Thailand, A SCHOOL FOR LIFE they called it.

Now with Jazz Against Apartheid returning to the roots of South African Jazz in Eastern Cape, the rile of international co-operation in bringing skills transfer is growing.
