Allen Jacobson is a Trombonist/Vocalist/Composer/Arranger/Educator who has performed throughout Canada and internationally for many years. He is also an Arts/Culture consultant, cultural manager for a major Canadian institution and is the director of one of Western Canada’s largest winter cultural festivals.
Allen Jacobson has performed with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, the Baden Baden Philharmonic (Conductor & Soloist), the European Philharmonie (Conductor, Soloist) the Citadel Theatre, Das Capitol, The EdJE (the JUNO nominated Edmonton Jazz Ensemble), and on film scores, jingles, modern dance collaborations and numerous commercial recordings.
Allen was First Jazz Trombonist with the Tommy Banks Big Band/Orchestra, a nationally (Canada) acclaimed performing, touring and recording ensemble. He has been heard on national and regional Television and Radio Programs and in concert halls (Canada, Germany, Sweden, France, Denmark, Japan, South Korea) both as a soloist and ensemble performer. He is also in demand as a Soloist and Conductor with Contemporary Music Ensembles and Jazz Big Bands and Orchestras.
Sonic Installations -spoken word- orchestral collaborations with Alvin Curran (Maritime Rites in Frankfurt), Jon Sass (Vienna), MJO (Germany), and Sjon (Iceland-Germany) among many others. As a member of the theatre DAS CAPITOL in Manheim, Allen has created sound scores, arrangements (vocal and instrumental), performed (musician, vocalist, narrator, actor) and acted as music director in original productions and adaptations of Musical Theatre and Theater with music.
Mr. Jacobson has performed in a wide variety of musical contexts including Theatrical, Symphonic, Mainstream Jazz, Contemporary Pop, Afro-Cuban, Latin Jazz, Blues, Big Band, Modern Dance, Avant Garde/Free Improvisation and numerous others and has performed at Jazz and World Music Festivals throughout Canada and in Europe, Scandinavia and Asia. with Tommy Banks, PJ Perry, Dave Liebman, Richie Beirach, Conte Candoli, Keith Copeland, Lee Konitz, Lew Tabakin, Kenny Wheeler, Bobby Shew, Christopher Dell, Tommy Banks, Harry Beckett, Ack van Ryooen, John Tchicai, The Edmonton Jazz Orchestra, The Frankfurt Jazz Big Band, HR Big Band, among numerous others.
He has provided workshops/seminars to schools, Colleges and Universities throughout Western Canada and Germany. He has taught Jazz Trombone, Vocals and Ensembles at the Hochshule fur Musik Rheinland-Pfalz, Mainz, and Jazz Trombone, Vocals (Classical and Jazz), Improvisation, Composition, Ensembles and Big Band at the Frankfurt Musik Hochschule (University of Performing Arts). He has also been on the faculty of the Peter - Cornelius Conservatory (Mainz) and as Visiting Professor at the Mannheim University of Performing Arts. Allen has also provided consulting services to the Privat Universitaet Wien (Vienna).
