As Hugh Tracey, noted the composer’s are the mouth of the community because we know the heart of the community.

Stephan Kurmann

Bass Player

The jazz bassist Stephan Kurmann was born in Basel in 1958 and has been a professional musician since 1978. Kurmann has toured Europe, Asia, the Americas, Australasia and Africa and recorded numerous albums.

Moss grew-up during the days of Marabi and Kwela music, dominated by the penny whistle wizards of the early sixties. He was also privileged to have come from a family and an environment that was rich with indigenous multicultural traditional music. Amongst the people who inspired him are Ernest Mothle, Phillip Tabane, the late Ernest Cole and Geoff Mphakathi who exposed him to a broader spectrum of other practitioners.

Chester Summerton is an Mdantsane born young just jazz pianist who seeks to heal nations with his exquisite tickles of the ivory.

Born and raised in Mdantsane, East London in the Eastern Cape and influenced by her musical upbringing and lineage, Siphokazi Ngxokolo- Bili is a foremost jazz vocalist and educator.

Retsi Pule is a jazz singer s born in King William’s Town in 1940. He is known for his smooth vocals, lively performances and American jazz influences.

Thomas Dyani

Percussion

Thomas Dyani is an intergenerational and international percussion player who moves between cultures, genres, sessions and festivals. Stepson of Johnny Dyani he is at the forefront of the South African jazz in exile movements all over Europe.

Claude Deppa

Lead Trumpeter

Claude came to London from Cape Town in 1975. Claude directs and composes for his own bands Horns Unlimited and African Jazz Allstars and is part of Kinetika Bloco and Grand Union Orchestra. He is a founder member of the Jazz Warriors he developed into one the UK’s most influential jazz musicians.
